Part of that money did go into a SGII for me, not to mention other tools or equipment for my car so in a sense the govt gave me the money that I then used to be more efficient.

My van and my wife's car are both 93 models. So no Scangauge for us. We used our $900 to help with food and rent.

Thanks, Blue07CivicEX! It was startin' to sound like class warfare in here!

It's both amusing and frustrating when folks think I'm some high-$$$$ spendthrift 'cause I have two BMWs, a Mercedes, and a Chevy. Of course, they're an '87, '86, '84, and a '57 respectively, so they're certainly not new. My last car payment was in '93 (on the used '86) and I've spent less on cars in the last five years than what a new low-end econocar costs.

Me too! Actually I've spent a lot less, 'cause I bought the Insight (used, of course) 5 years ago in June. So figure somewhere around $3K spent on cars in the last 5 years: about $2K on a used Toyota pickup (when you subtract what I sold the older one for), then add the ScanGauge, a MIMA kit, and a used battery to replace the out-of-warranty one.

Mine went to a $50 used scangauge, and a $25 upgrade. Now I just need to find out if it will support my car.

If you have four cars of any type, of any value, you dont need 600 dollars. If you did you would sell one of them. So no shawn does not "need" his rebate. Alot of people "need" to rethink just what that word means. Like some people "need" an 8 mpg SUV that seats 7-8 so they can drive around by themselves 90% of the time. Also I agree the government should stay out of our business and economy as much as possible. I was just seeing what everyone thought of that idea. I do think the tax credit for buying such a device could really help aolt of people save alot of money and gas. It seems to me that most people have no idea how much the driving style affect FE.

How about requiring that mileage gauges be made standard in all cars to be sold in the US after such and such a date. They are trying to mandate fuel efficiency improvements. Why not make a real time MPG gauge standard.

Hmm... I was only joking about "class warfare" when I said it the first time. I dunno why my statements seem to have offended you so much.
