^^^ this is 100% true for normal operation and with no CEL

However if the O2 sensor is disconnected you will only have the following mode:
12V safe mode(limp mode) which for fuel mapping is different than the 3 above

I disagree. I can/have done it. There are 4 operating modes, not counting dfco, egr, or enrichment.

The window is very limited though, and you need to be drafting/ going downhill/ or have heavy aero mods.

You can also swap to a euro ecu, where the window is larger at higher rpm.

On a 94-95 US ecu I couldn't do unless it was drafting and downhill (smaller window), in that case you'd be better of EOC anyway.

Not disagreeing with you and this case is way beyond the OP's abilities anyway so we may be going off topic for the question at hand, but are you sure you were not seeing fuel cut? Downhill will enduce fuel cut mode which will look like lean mode on any O2 sensor, wideband, or other such monitoring system. Downhill, coasting/drafting, and/or drastic aeromods will require such little engine load that the ecu would disengage vtec anyway, so are you sure there is a 4th mode? Just curious as to how you did your testing.

mpguino for lb and vacuum for vtec. Also stated by bajoos (don't know if he tried with a us ecu though). You do enough driving over rolling hills you'll get a feel for all 4.

Can you please explain the 4th mode in more detail?

PGFPRO - I was just trying to be funny with the mitsu crack! nothing against the mitsu guys!

with my dual vtec d15b, I can say there are at least 4 operating modes:

12v lean burn
12v standard operation
16v mid cam (vtec1 about 3k rpm)
16v wild cam (dual vtec about5200 rpm)
I'm not running a d15z1 like a lot of you guys-
(jdm ecu 37820-p2j-j62, jdm d15b motor, vx tranny, 4door lx civic)

I want to say XNTRX (hope I spelled that right) said that there was a bunch of combinations of lean burn in 12v and 16v mode, but only within certain windows, as explained in any of the OP's threads (that does not apply to my motor, I'm sure, but I've got a d15z1 in the garage for the next project, so I'm busy learning

I'VE GOT MAD RESPECT FOR ANYBODY BREAKING 40 MPG'S (NON - HYBRID)
-just sayin'

cool.

I'm dreaming of an Integra, or maybe a Prelude (2dr, leather, sunroof either way) for my d15z1 and my vx tranny that I'll be picking up in Cincinatti from fellow ecomodder TURBOVR41991 on sautrday

EDIT:

TURBOVR41991 DOES HAVE ONE MORE VX TRANNY, READY TO GO FOR SALE:
