$20 a day, eh? Figures.

It's looking like a blank canvas from here.

Awesome that you got it back quickly. Sucks about the damage though, would insurance help fix something like that?

Glad you got the car back! What's the plan now, fix it up and restore the ecomods, or retire it?

Not sure at this point.
I'm not even sure it will start.

Even if some might think it was a "cool" car, or whatever, I always feel like poor white trash driving it.

I was thinking I was just going to go without a car and save the $600 a year I spend on insurance, but my sister convinced me that this would actually be worse for my agoraphobia anxiey, since now I would have a good excuse for never leaving my apartment.

@M_a_t_t : I just had the minimum insurance. ( I was thinking "What fool would want to steal THIS ! lol " )
Even if I did have full coverage, a full "writeoff" of the car would only get me maybe $1,200 .

I just got a ( generic ) GoPro like camera as a birthday gift. It would have been perfect for testing aeromods.
I was really looking forward to doing some testing.

Uhg, that looks terrible. People suck. People suck bad.

Destroying your aeromods without - presumably - even getting it running is just ridiculous.

Almost better if you'd never gotten it back, considering you had to pay to get it back in that condition.

If you decide to try and fix it, you'd probably be better off to see if you could buy a whole steering column with everything on it, including a key, from a junk yard. Should just plug in to the harness under the dash, bolt right on, and not have any gremlins with it. Unless they messed up wiring under the dash too.

If you're going to try hotwiring it, start with a wiring diagram that shows you what color wire is for what. The main power wires ought to be thicker than the rest, unless it uses relays to switch the main power on.

Welp, let us know how we can help. Otherwise good luck!

Maybe it's time to buy a cheap Insight, delete the hybrid system, and double your mileage.

Never saw a column in a junkyard that had keys unless the vehicle was a reconstruction on a salvage permit. Isn't hard to do a re key. You actually don't need the whole unit, just the harness between the key and the bulkhead unless the eejuts slide hammered the lock out.

Even more importantly, is there going to be a donor available in the wreckers yard because that column will be a popular item

I think I would install something like this for $50.

.... and a hidden cut-off switch.

My sister is trying to convince me to let her husband fix up the car to sell, and then use the money on a newer used car.

As far as security ( if I kept it ) , my first thought on it was simply buying a high strength chain and lock.
I would lock the chain to the factory tow hook bracket under the car.
I could remove it all, and place it in the back of the car in seconds.

If a thief stole the car again, the chain would make all sorts of noise and sparks as they drove.

If they tried to cut it loose, they would need a power bolt cutter or to sit there with a grinder for 15 minutes.

They probably wouldn't even see it.

It would be a lot cheaper too.
