Female spline ends have been petty popular on forklifts and golf carts. A shaft goes from the differential directly into the motor, which is bolted right to the differential.

The only thing you have to watch on that is some motors rely on that to support and center the drive end of the motor.

If you have a stub shaft, make sure to keep it and don't mess it up! Project Forkenswift had to get a machinist to make one of those for them!
