Hi guys.
It was all about money for me and the Insight. My monthly insurance cost was halved, and my fuel expenditure was reduced to less than half. Style was important, the G1 Insight looks really cool, I wasn't interested in a Geo Metro. At the time I didn't know about the Civic VX, but now that I do I would have considered one of those as well.

I think this is the sweet spot between style and money:
OTOH a 25hp-case derived motor in a Karmann Ghia, at the California Flying Mile, just turned 151.4mph.(I can't find a good link at the moment. It was Darrel Vittone)

Must really suck having to deal with such an inferiority complex, so you have to drive a tall, uncomfortable vehicle to compensate.

I'm not sure it's inferiority complex so much as 'in case of a crash I want to live while the other person dies, so I will get a vehicle that is more prone to single-vehicle accidents.'
Or something.

It's plain to see that for many, it does! Plenty of times I've seen munchkins struggling to climb up into their compensator vehicles- running boards aren't even enough. I'm waiting for the optional deployable escalator option to appear on the next Canyonero.
Oh well. They get to pay for it... in the purchase price and at the pumps.

Last week I pulled up onto the highway and slotted in right behind an MGB. It made my Fit feel like a Suburban.

Yeah, I often wish I still had the Austin-Healey Sprite I owned back in the '70s.

"...so I will buy a big, tall, heavy 'safe' vehicle, and then spend my time talking or texting on my cell phone so I can put the safety features to the test" :-)
Though that doesn't explain why even most compact cars are built so you sit way higher than is necessary, or than is comfortable for me. Honestly, the couple of rentals I've had to drive felt almost like I was riding around on a bar stool.

I met a woman who bought a Mirage because...
"Plasma purple!"
While she also got the good MPG, she admitted she knew nothing about the car beforehand. She bought it only for the colour.

In 1975 my dad and mom took my brother and I from Montana to Disneyland in an MG midget. Convertible boot storage, or back seat for kids? I don't remember even being uncomfortable but we were going to Disney. My favorite part? Hotel swimming pool of course!
We had a Mach1 fastback Mustang as well, that would have been like taking an RV but 351C and 3.75 gears with no overdrive would have burned gas like an RV.
