Survey: Male car buyers prefer style, women opt for fuel efficiency
Interesting!
Quote:
The survey by MyCarCheck.com, which questioned more than 500 UK car buyers on a range of preferences, found that both men and women put the price of a new car at the top of their priorities.
However, gender differences were revealed when it came to their second priority, with 355 male respondents opting for “look and style” and 190 female respondents going for “fuel efficiency”.

I can't think of anyone who prioritizes fuel efficiency (even in 2nd place) in car purchases.

Seems the men were being more honest, although I believe that women do tend to give more priority to MPG than men.
Maybe the survey should have asked if color was a priority, because I have a feeling the women weren't considering that to be part of the "look and style".

Not to offend, but seems to show women are more likely to lie in surveys. Or maybe looks and style just go without saying. Still I would think saftey and reliability would also beat MPG.

I was reading last week that 78% of all surveys have badly flawed methodology and 82% of all statistics are simply made up.

Did they study what the respondents actually bought/would buy? Going into a dealer saying fuel efficiency is a priority probably results in more 27MPG CUVs being sold (27 is higher than the 20 an SUV would get, right?) than economy cars.

... and "I saw an ad saying that a version of their truck gets good mileage" means a four wheel drive quad cab with the big engine is what's really going to get sold.

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Well, the dealers make more profit selling a $60k fully loaded, 400hp, 4x4, crew cab truck, than selling the $23k, base model, six cyl, 4x2, regular cab truck that actually gets the advertised fuel economy

Dealer profits are also to blame for this... Why sell a customer a Corolla with $500 dealer profit instead of a RAV4 with $1500 dealer profit? The salesmen are usually pretty aggressive about going for the up sell... "You want a truck, you say? Well then, you're totally gonna want four wheel drive, and what's the fun of not being able to bring the family along?", or " I just think that CUV fits you better than that compact car does, and you deserve it, right?"

Time and again I have asked women why they chose a specific car. Either they drove a Prius or they said it was cute. A few say it is fun to drive. One claimed "legendary Chrysler reliability." I have definitely talked to far more women who said their cars were "cute" than Prius owners.

I broke up with a beautiful girl partially because she traded in her 2 year old Aveo for a new Aveo because she liked the color.
