Lightbulb Tdi ac delete

I want to remove the air conditioning from my motor- 1998 TDI 1.9 AGR

I have read all you need to do is change the belt and I have read you have to change some pulley and a belt.
I am really hoping all I need to do is change the belt, does anyone know or has anyone done this to their tdi ?

You'll need to install an idler pulley there to keep the belt tracking the way it should. You will also of course need to find a corrected length serp belt with the proper number of grooves in it. Why not leave the A/C compressor installed? You are always going to need a bearing there, so whether it's the one already on the compressor, or on the idler pulley it's still going to drag things down a bit.........Nevermind, I'm thinking ALH engine, you have a AGR-completely different!

Are you thinking of installing a Prius electric A/C compressor?

Hey Josh, I was thinking I would remove my AC compressor as it does not work and my belt is getting old and needs to be replaced anyhow.
No AC is needed.
The only difference That I am aware of between the ALH motor and AGR motor is the former has a VNT turbo and the ladder has a ko3 waste gated turbo. there may well be other differences but I am unaware of them..

I have read about the idler pulley but believe that is for the earlier mk3 cars.
I will probably have to buy a new power steering pulley and shorter belt,More expense..

My A/C and Power Stearing where on seperate belt. So I could remove both without affecting the alternator/waterpump belt. Also go to a shop and have the refrigerent pumped out and captured. Don't pollute.

Looking at your TDI belt routing I thought that you would need to use a an idler pulley but now I do not thing that is true.

Here is my suggested routing for it Click image for larger version

That really looks like it will work Phantom, I looked under the hood and it is just as the diagrams suggest.
Some have reported a problem with the belt lining up with the pulleys after the AC compressor is removed, the AC pulley must help the alignment of the belt, So I have been reading, other people say just change the belt. Tomorrow i am going to have a look at the pulley alignment to see if The AC pulley or another pulley is offset as some have claimed.

Busy paws I have heard that some tdi's{my motor} have 2 belts, could be the earliest model of it, I will look and see if 2 belts could possibly be used on the pulleys, who knows? well I will find out tomorrow I guess.
My AC has leaked and has no pressure in it. It uses the r134 refrigerant that is a hydrofluorocarbon or HFC compound, with no ozone depletion potential, it is better then its predecessor but not perfect.
