Once in a while I still remember when EFI was considered such an advanced feature, so advanced it was worth highlighting with badges.

Update. In talking with them it doesn't seem they did any CarFax or similar. The actual quote for the repair is close to $9,000 according to them. Thankfully they've got the problem resolved with the extended warranty and will only owe $500 for the deductible.
On another note, my new computer froze again after a month of working fine. Let's hope this doesn't become a constant problem again like before.
I also went to open the rear hatch on the Prius at about -20°F and the whole part where the handle, plate lights and Toyota symbol are just broke apart into at least 3 pieces.

Apparently this is a common problem. I've personally seen it several times.

Some plastic items nowadays tend to have such a low quality, which is somewhat unacceptable considering a Coke bottle won't be that brittle yet it's so thin, while most car parts made out of plastic seem to be thicker and then were supposed to be stronger.

I should be more cautious after hearing this. Christmas eve, this was the PDX parking lot. Absolute skating rink, and I was lifting the car from the suspension quite a lot before the rear hatch came free.
Didn't expect it to ice over, but had a last second thought to put the wiper blades up just in case. Seems I was the only one to have that idea.

I have never seen anything like that, not even in some mountainous regions where it gets really cold.

I think today is the first day we've had hotter than 0°C since the beginning of December.

What you are seeing is freezing rain. It happens when there is an inversion and the upper layers of the atmosphere are warmer than the air near the ground. So moisture falls as rain and then freezes on the car and roads.

Got a light dusting this morning, but it's mostly gone.
Hope to get more sometime this week.
