Elon might be looking for some good spots to put the charging stations in the space as well.

I received an email from NASA informing of a Mars landing Thursday the 18th. Commentary begins at 11:15am PST.
This might be the mission that includes a bonus helicopter. I wish we could get video from mars, as we would see it, including sound.

Why does it make more sense to live on Mars, instead of Antartica or under the sea ?

Hedge against catastrophe. You never quite know until you try. Also, it's hard.

Diemos, in particular, is a gateway to the outer Solar System. ...and Iapetus in particular.

If a cosmic collision wipes out life on Earth, Antarctica and the ocean bottom may not run free.
It is way easier to launch rockets from Mars than from Earth. To the point that it makes sense to build satellites on Mars even if they are to be launched towards and used around Earth.

I think going to Mars is going to have huge benefits to Earth, eventually. Overpopulation? Pollution? High unemployment? Ship to Mars!
There will be plenty of work and opportunity to terraform the planet however you please there.
