I didn't know either one had actual politics, unless thinking the whole world is about you counts as a political position these days. Of course, given the current definition of "literally", it probably does count.

It appears that Musk has decided to produce are small run of $35,000 cars so that he can check the box, sell some cars at the original promised price, and then move on and raise prices from here on out.

Time will tell if the reservation holders are OK with that plan. The lowest priced car is not effectively $6250 more expensive than when Musk announced the Model 3.

Next week's 1st quarter report will be interesting. I'm curious how bad things really are.

Musk has already said the Standard version would not be produced in high numbers before the end of June and we're not there yet.

This has nothing to do with the Model Y anyhow.

This year Musk changes his mind every week or so. Per his latest the $35K Standard Model 3 is dead. If you don’t have one on order you won’t get one

Sure it does. Musk said the Model Y will be 10% more expensive than the Model 3. The more expensive the Model 3 gets over the next 2 years the more expensive the Model Y gets.

I would have thought that would be bigger news. Do you have a link?

The Standard Model 3 has been removed from the website. The least expensive Model 3 you can order today is the Standard Plus for $40,700 including destination charge and document fees.

https://www.tesla.com/model3/design#battery

From your earlier InsideEVs link:

If our understanding is correct, this might mean that the $35,000 Model 3 is no more beginning today and will now begin at a higher base price. Those who already ordered at this original price should see their delivery in the coming weeks.

Seems like there's no new info or direction on this. Last thing mentioned was:

"Update: Tesla contacted us this morning to say that in fact you can get a $35,000 Model 3 with no autopilot, if you call or visit one of its stores."

It's still available, just not advertised.

It's not a political statement, but nothing does a better job of making the point about how Tesla is run. If you can't step back and separate politics out of it because it's about mannerisms and trustworthiness not polices, then I'm not the one injecting politics. I also have no major problems with Trump or Musk because I'm not going to let either one of them affect my life. A discussion online about something is better IMO if different opinions are represented and thinking challenged. If you want all these Tesla threads to just be sunflowers and rainbows about how great thou art (picture Musk or Trump in front of a mirror saying that) maybe you are in the wrong place.

6 months from now how many people do you think will know the Tesla secret menu exists? What are the chances that Musk changes his mind again?

I dunno, but at the moment it seems a person with sufficient motivation to purchase a $35k (plus delivery) Model 3 can do so.
