Yeah same sediment here..
I knew it was getting really bad when I filled my motorcycle up , it has a 3 gallon tank and its over $11... thats ridiculous
However just picked up 100 gallons of free dirty fuel to clean up for use.. can't argue with that.. 2.5 hours of work for 100 gallons of fuel.. best labor rate ever

Last time I filled up was $44 I think. I have the receipt somewhere. For the last few weeks I've been putting $10-$20 at a time because that's what I had on me. Going to make calculating the next fill-up fun.

Now with hurricane season coming, it would be a good idea to keep at least a half a tank because once the power goes out, this place becomes waterworld .. LOL

Actually, it depends on the opportunity cost of the money between fill-ups. If you could increase the value of the money you didn't use to fill up completely over the amount of the increase in fuel prices in the interim.
Say, instead of paying $40 to fill up once a month, you only put $10 in every week. Gas prices during May increased an average of about 2.6% per week. If you took the $30 you didn't spend on gas in week one and invest it where the rate of return was greater than 2.6% and do the same each week, you'd actually end up ahead.
The hard part would be finding somewhere to invest where you'd get better than 2.6%.

worse comes to worse I just use vegetable oil. I know a few resteraunt owners in the area that would let me get some of the used stuff. I still have enough methanol and sodium hydroxide to make about 50 gallons of biodiesel. If I have to I could filter, dewater, and refilter and just run it straight veggie but I don't like doing that.

Try living in england, last time i filled my 40 litre tank it cost me around £45 ($88 US) which was £1.16 (~$2.20) a litre. Even worse for diesel owners when it's £1.30 a litre in 95% of places now.

That's all I've ever done. I fill from 1/4 tank to 3/4 tank all the time, which is about 5.5 gallons. That's putting me over $20, but at least the "bite" doesn't feel so bad. Remember in the good old days when 5 gallons was $10? That was soooooo four years ago, :

Due to the amount of miles that I drive, I only fill up on a set schedual...once on Friday evening and again on Monday evening. The Fri. fill up is usually the most expensive unless I do a lot of traveling on the weekends.
Current cost to fill the 15.8gal tank on my Volvo....~$62.00
