Toyota Auris Hybrid gets 61.9mpg (US)
According to this Gas 2.0 article:
Toyota Auris Hybrid Hatchback to Get 61.9 MPG : Gas 2.0
The upcoming Toyota Auris Hybrid gets 61.9mpg (US) on the European mileage test, and emits just 89gm/km of carbon. Pretty good, I'd say.

Very cool. I like the solar panel on the roof, but agree it'll be needed for cooling with all that glass!

...I always "chuckle" at literary sentances like this:
"...In addition to a smooth, sophisticated and stress-free driving experience, the Auris HSD represents also outstanding value for money."
...just how-the-heck does "stress-free" fit with smooth and sophisticated driving?
...anybody else thinking the Auris is Toyota's response to Nissan's Leaf?

I'd be willing to bet all the glass is low-e. I think they can market the solar panels for the ventilation system & charging crap all they want as long as when you're driving it charges the big battery/provides motive current. I know it's not going to provide enough current to noticably extend EV range or increase MPG, but if you have them you may as well make them work.

Or how about absolutely meaningless verbiage, like "Toyota core model" and "C segment customers". Just WTF is that supposed to mean?

...more automotive-speak jargon, like "our" (ecomodder) word EOC, etc.

Hello -
Yeah, the roof seems silly because it will be casting moving shadows that may get pretty annoying :
Is the *whole* roof open, or is the rear solid with a slider to cover the front part? :
I do notice the "crisp" rear section where the side meets the bumper, ala the latest Prius :

The roof is doubly silly because light that passes through a solar panel is not absorbed by it. And how much thicker is it than a conventional roof? That increases frontal area. Solar roofs have always seemed like gimmicks to me. Just run my blower motor off the traction battery and let me plug in if I want to, thanks.
Btw, the Auris is not a new model. America and Japan get the Corolla, Europe gets the taller, more upscale Auris. Honda does something similar: the euro market Civic is different from the NA/Japan Civic, just like the Focus used to be.
