Toyota Drops Prius Base Price to $21,000 to Compete with Honda Insight

Even though Toyota would like us to focus on the not quite stellar 40/43 mpg rating of the new Honda Insight hybrid, most of the press has focused on the hybrid’s low price. In fact, the price was so low that Toyota decided they had to do something to keep the Prius competitive. In Japan, Toyota [...] Related posts:

Competing on efficiency and price. Nice combination.

OOooooh. I'm interested to see what the Prius I package comes with. Rumor has it the I won't have the EV mode button (like thats a hard addon). The Prius II has tons more features than any car I've ever had and is overkill already IMO. Who needs 8 speakers in their car?!?

Especially for a small car, 8 speakers is too much. Of course, I have no idea what size speakers they're talking about.

You'd think think they'd try to keep it low to save weight, but I guess weight isn't considered when they decide what accessories to add.

Hi,

Eight speakers probably just means that there are separate woofers and tweeters in the front and the back. This is not overkill, IMO.

I wonder if the Prius I comes with steel wheels, that we can then put smooth wheel covers on?
