dremd - I've looked at a lot of different forum threads that are responses to threads here on EM (mostly about basjoos' car), and I think you're right about the herd mentality. If the negative position taken by the first poster or 2 isn't challenged by someone else early on, the thread goes down the tubes pretty quickly.
treb: weight was the #1 objection (after aesthetics) to basjoos' mods as well.
I came this close to jumping in the toyotanation thread before it had progressed to its 2nd page, but didn't go through with activating my account, for most of the reasons you listed (and because it took long enough for the activation message to get to me that I had time to think about it a little :P).

Thanks for pointing that out I kept searching for 1.7 - but he never said 1.7, he gave raw data
Apparently, those guys don't realize 2mpg is a big deal for low FE numbers :/ Sigh.

Wow...really...I would never have imagined this bed cap could generate those comments.
It is one of the few aeromods I've seen I actually think looks good and professional.
Sad...

I hope this doesn't discourage bondo. Sometimes people in message boards can lack intelligence.
Yeah, most people do point out the weight in message boards. I wonder what the weight penalty vs. areo benefit break-even point is. I almost guarantee it is under 30mph.

Well, even bondo noted an improvement in his "combined" cycle driving. As treb pointed out in another thread recently, people overestimate the speeds at which aero resistance becomes a significant factor (relative to RR). it's definitely under 30

That's so true....
But I'm sure most folks here don't fall in that category from what I've been reading.
And.....some of us truck owners actually think that aero cap looks really good and has great potential.

I feel better
That said, I don't care if someone likes the look or not - it's just the goofy claims and fallacies that bother me

Nothing new here. I have posted on pickup truck forums before and got the most negative comments off of the Toyota truck forums. Don't know why? When gas reaches $4.00 a gallon, maybe they will be more open minded.
Not discouraged a bit. You can't please all the people all the time. Anyway, I value comments posted here on ecomodder higher than any other forum.
Thanks to all for your support and encouragement,
Bondo
