Perhaps 'normal' is different down under? Hereabouts the only reason to put a vehicle in a garage is to work on it.

So obviously my American friends are abnormal because they keep their cars in their garage.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. In the US (outside of perhaps high-crime urban areas) most people don't keep their cars (or trailers &c) in garages.

Again, they must be abnormal as must be most of their neighbors. They live in a nice part of outer suburban LA!

Spot the logical flaw there? "...all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average."
Purely from a psychological point of view, it's surely problematical to be so concerned with an ordinary vehicle (that is, not a classic that's presumably appreciating) that you waste time & space on garaging it

There are no nice parts of suburban LA. You don't start getting to nice until around the Kern River.

Garage? In Eastern Oregon, if someone needs to work on their car, they roll it under a shade tree.
I'm having trouble picturing this. A standard double garage is 20x20ft with a 7ft door. So in a 10ft space you're going to have a 7ft wide truck and a trailer with 30" tires on it's side? How will you open the door on the truck?
I share the concerns about safety. Why not get a [standard, hydraulic] garage lift and position it so you can roll the trailer onto the pads and lift it straight up? You could put a coffer in the ceiling joists for the fenders to fit into, then back the truck in under the trailer.

So, going by your comment you store all your furniture and other possessions outside too? I value my possessions and take steps to keep them in good condition.
I am interested in your contention that it is problematical to be concerned with preserving the value of an asset. I also value my safety and drive a relatively new vehicle that has a plethora of safety systems to protect myself as well as those that I love. Leaving it outside will decrease its value as well as reducing safety - one example being when you get into a car that has been sitting in the sun and is so hot that you cannot touch the seats or steering wheel without getting burnt.
Because you do not agree with my views, should I contend that because you don't value your cars, that it then follows that you do not value anything else, including the safety of whoever is in your cars? No, because it is illogical and an attempt to enforce my value system upon another person.

Ahhh.... Trailer Chat.
Once I garaged my Metro and my neighbors shunned me.
And I died.
