I I decided to go another route. I read another option was to connect it to the speed sensor wire behind the dashboard. I am now getting a speed signal. The problem now is that the speed is greatly exaggerated. 5 mph = 25 mph and 60 mph =160 mph.

Maybe it just needs calibrated. I am not sure.

assuming you haven't picked up the tach signal, then yes...it should just need calibrating.

Not sure on the older models, but it looks like a lot of Hondas use ~8204 pulses per mile. If yours is different, I'd change it to that for starters.

All solved. I needed 33450 vss pulses / mile. I confirmed that the speed was accurate with my phones GPS. I think the reason it needs to be so high is because the wire I tapped into is the vss signal after the vss signal amplifier. The mpg values look mostly accurate at the moment.
