Trucking MPG bonus $

My little brother has just gotten his CDL and starts his new job soon.
Over the road trucking. He is in the MPG game and gets ~40MPG out of his 99' neon. Hes thinking he can crush this game and win big time.
I think I might join him

Wow, 10.75 is definitely doable at 55mph, even with a full load. My dad 'hypermiled' once because I asked him to, and at 55mph on flat ground with a load of mail, I think he was doing 10.5-11.

Dang, I'm at the wrong company. Mine uses MPG as part of its bonus metric, but it's not as big a factor...

If he can get 11MPG for an entire year he will make enough for a versa.
now if he can leave the engine off when hes trying to sleep when its 0*F or 100*F thats the real problem with big truck MPG.

My rig has Freightliner's ParkSmart system...basically a battery operated HVAC unit. It's imperfect but does cut idle time and with the added bonus of warming the coolant when the heater is in use.

Fully loaded, I'm lucky to see 8mpg. Toss in any topography and 4-5mpg for some segments will be a given. Empty it's around 9.5-10mpg. Bobtailing, 12-14mpg. On my current load I got 9.2 with a light 12k load in the back over nearly 700 miles.

What speed do you cruise at?

Cruise is limited to 60, which is where I
Spend most of my time. Going down to 55 makes a huge difference but isn't always viable.

Sounds about right for 60, if you could make 8 cents more a mile for getting 10.75, would you try?
