If you're going to make a car look a submarine, at least put some angles in there that reduce the drag.

Most times when an ugly car comes out, they state that it looks that way for 'good aerodynamics', but this car couldn't use that excuse at all.

From what i recall, the Cd actually went up a bit from the previous design.
That one is from the 1996-1999 generation, lower than its immediate predecessor, but it's interesting to note that the earliest generation of Taurus had the lowest cD and the most recent generation has not only the highest cD but also the most frontal area...

I don't have any negative feelings toward the Taurus, it's always seemed like a stout utility sedan - and I'd own any generation including the bubbly ones if I was shopping for an inexpensive used car, just seems weird to see them going backwards on aero.

0.29 Ford Taurus 1986-1991

0.32 Ford Taurus 1992-1995

0.30 Ford Taurus 1996-1999

0.30 Ford Taurus 2000-2007

0.30 Ford Taurus 2008-2009

0.33 Ford Taurus 2010-2012

Being fair, 0.30 for the "ugly" one was a step forward from the previous generation's 0.32, and 0.30 is CRX territory. The 0.29 quoted for the first generation is as good as a first generation Prius, very nearly Volt territory - funny when you consider the first generation Taurus wasn't "oddly shaped" really and came out in 1986

According to legend my previous posting, the Allegro, was more aerodynamic in reverse than it was going forwards.

Since we're looking at rear ends: Anyone other than Star Wars fans love this?

Olds Aurora aka Darth [heavy breathing] Vader.

It would be easier, but the Taurus still has an interesting design...

Not eco cars but have to say 70s vintage Citroens and 73-77 Caprices/Imaplas.

Re: bubble Taurus: I was always OK with it's appearance but I heavily faulted Ford for destroying the rear seat headroom on their bread-and-butter family sedan. I mean, WTF? Evidently they realized their mistake after it was in production and the next freshening got a substantial increase in rear headroom. Moon Unit is the wagon version, though, so didn't suffer from that ill-advised styling indiscretion. Just like "New Beetle"; first one needlessly threw out rear seat utility for style; finally VW is fitting a roof that appears to fix that.
