The conventional wisdom is that turbos are more efficient than superchargers since they recoup some energy from the exhaust stream, whereas the supercharger doesn't. And that (gasoline anyway) normally aspirated is more efficient yet with even lower pumping losses (those compressors are pumps), afaik. Is it possible you or he got super/turbo mixed up in the discussion?

It sounds like it has a turbo so it must have more power... even though I just clogged up my intake.
A real supercharger can improve FE. But mostly by allowing you to use an undersized engine. Not really a quick DIY mod.

And with a leaf blower attached to the engine.
