unwelcome 'pop-up' just wrecked my work

In the midst of replying to a thread, a new (to me) pop-up EcoModder.com window appeared on the page.
I hit the X on it,thinking it would go away,instead it threw me off the site,losing many minutes of typing.This is a new phenomena to me and very unwelcome.Just thought I'd share the info.

I've lost a lot of typing before also. All I can suggest is typing responses into a word doc then paste it.

I have used this technique too. More often though, I just "select all" and then right click "copy" to put my text on the clipboard in case of a mistake.

No changes to the site that would explain a pop-up. Not something we would knowingly do.

Notepad. That and calculator are always up, especially at work.
