Where's my Ecomodder sticker? I just bicycled down to the mailbox and checked. (Insert customary laughing emoticon here.)

It's in the mail! (Seriously. Also: you get another sticker if you put one ON a bicycle.)

---

Sheepdog: yes! Theoretically, make money when gas is low by buying up the now-cheap efficient used cars to sell at a giant profit when it goes back up. The $60,000 question is when prices are going back up.

Remember the insane ~$7000 used Geo Metro bubble of 2008/9? That idea.

charted territory

Posted in June...

Today's chart...

Actually, the 9-year chart is more interesting from this forum's perspective, since it covers EM's entire life (I joined in Nov., 2007)...

Though I notice that the last graph shows that the price was - briefly! - even lower than today, back at the end of 2008, yet it bounced right back up again.

Thats BS here in finland. When gas got cheaper, they raised the gasoline taxing....

At this rate, UAPC will run on homebrewed stuff

Same here. I saw diesel gets sold for less than one euro per liter (about $4 a gallon) at some stations, but gas still is 1.36 €/l ($5.50/gallon) at the cheapest.
It was like 1.80 €/l when oil was $100 a barrel...

Gas won't sink below the 1 euro per liter mark here until the oil price sinks below 30 dollars in the negative (i.e. you get $30 for taking a barrel)!

At least some of that tax money gets spent on new and better roads, my commute has seen steady improvements for that.
Two days ago a new section of road opened to ease traffic congestion at the east of Gouda, one month ago a second highway between Delft and Rotterdam opened, which freed up the seriously congested A13 that had an avalanche effect on roads far away, etc.

We're doing considerably better than a few other related sites, but it's fair to say the majority of people hanging around here these days have a deeper interest in the subject matter than saving a few dollars a week when prices are already high (or rising fast).
Shame... I was hoping I could do more aero-modding articles for our local site, but I don't think the interest will be there now that diesel here is under 40 cents a liter.

Gas prices will go back up, maybe in late 2017. The big question is how deep into its reserves Saudi Arabia has dug. Once all that cheap Saudi oil is off the market, I think we will be seeing $60 - $80 again, at the very least.

I'm sure there is a futures market; that's what caused prices to skyrocket in 2008. Speculators drove the price of a barrel up.

You should be able to purchase oil on paper now, and then hopefully sell it at a higher price in the future.

There is a chance that oil prices remain this low longer term, when alternative energy sources begin to displace consumption.

I assume this forum will generally become less relevant as vehicles shift away from ICE and gain efficiency.

I read that oil producers were running out of room to store unsold oil.

Next step: They take a page from Japan's book and go to negative territory. Long lines at the pumps then, SUVs idling until they burn enough for an 8 gallon fill up to make some money!
