I think one of their universal bolt ones would help to lift the airflow over the top of the rider's helmet ,especially if there was a fairing "hump" behind it.

Any piece of plastic or whatever that raises the windshield to the height of any "lip" will do the same thing. If that is the height you desire and you can get a windshield in that height in the first place (or a too tall one that you trim down) that will work the same.

They either failed to put a tall enough windshield on it in the first place, or they want some measure of adjustability- perhaps to accomodate riders of different heights.

The Hershner Zero was built for him and I assume Alan built his own bike to suit himself. From that I'm going to assume both of them see some advantage in the "lip", rather than both failing to build a tall enough screen.

Perhaps they should weigh in with their reasons.

It is possible that if they are set up such that they are looking through the shield (vs over as I always am) that looking through a near vertical, near flat plate has better optics than looking through curved, angled plastic.
