CBR250 to CBR125 bolt in swap?

Does anyone know if CBR250 and CBR125 share the same engine mount pattern? I used to swap XR80's to 100's etc and Honda is a smart company so I am hoping so.

Yes I live in California, but I have very little freeway mileage. If I get pulled over, it will say 250 on paper and on the bike! I ride my TTR 125 up and down my road at 45mph and thats with dirt gearing.

Maybe after shipping and all things considered, it will be a wash but its the principle of the matter dangit!

Otherwise I might have to Grom it!!! (Why the Grom is not 150cc is beyond me for the California market)

Thanks for any input you may have

-Kyle

Nooo! Say it ain't so!

One thing that really bugs me is Honda's excuse to not sell the CBR125 in USA is that 150cc is freeway limit in CA and probably other states. But they sell the CBR150 in Southeast Asia so what's the real reason?

I almost thank Kawi for stepping up to 300cc because that will create somewhat of a gap for the 150 to sneak in. I can only pray that the USA adopts a tiered drivers license system from other countries (among other things)

That's how the Honda Fit came about, and that's gaining weight with each generation like 99% of car model gens do *coughminicough*

I am thinking a flat adapter plate with the needed mounts welded on that bolt's in the motor mounts place , would work for you.

Yah, welding custom mounts on a bike isn't terribly hard, especially at 125cc power levels. Check the basics first, like which side the sprocket is on, and if you can find a sprocket that fits the 250 chain.

If you are referring to the one cylinder 250, it likely has better peak bsfc than the 125, so you would probably (i.e. definitely) come out farther ahead just tweaking your driving style and some minor gearing tweaks.

Dang. Well I wonder if the plastic is swappable. I love the grey and orange CBR125. Put a KTM sticker on it and it would be even faster and have tighter maintenance intervals

Good points on the custom mounts, a few tac welds here and there would probably restrain the 125cc haha. But if I'm gonna hack, I might be better off making an XR250 Cafe racer. Any thoughts on Air cooled XR250 vs CBR250 MPG? I think CBR would rule aerodynamically on the freeway.

Yeah I'll pass on the Grom, even though I'd like to support its sales, I don't agree with Honda's choice of 125cc over 150cc. Maybe 125cc is the limit for that type of engine.

Saw the ADV rider thread about bringing a CBR125 into the states. But Being in CA that doesnt sound like it would work very easily. Plus I want it to be "250" on paper.

Welp thanks for the help guys I appreciate your knowledge!

That 150cc minimum displacement for motorcycles to be allowed in highway traffic seems kinda pointless. But I don't think it would be so much of an advantage to run a 125cc engine instead of the stock one in a CBR250 if you do mostly highway traffic, because the 250cc class seems to have the best balance between fuel-savings and overall performance.

If you are Ok to use an engine with less "go", a massive gear reduction is gonna be much more rewarding, not to mention much cheaper ...

That will be my first mod! Gotta find out how low I can go. Then take it to some salt flats for some high speed runs. A multi purpose daily driver!

Yeah I hear you Cripple Rooster. I just really envy the 125's 80-90mpg on Fuelly vs the 250's 60-80mpg. Plus I find myself doing everything against the grain of America (Trials riding, WRC, F1 etc) I try to keep an open mind towards other countries methods because I believe in progress! And I believe in breaking the rules or laws to attain it. Living in a trailer on my own land (deemed illegal) comes to mind.
