The shape/idea of that bumb VW copied from mk8 Golf which is with a lot less ground clearance. ID3 ground clearance is so high that there is way too much visible tire at the front. Thats why you get better results if you install extra flaps there. Because the air vents seem to be fake it just tells that they have released the car in a hurry. You just copy things here and there and dont think what else have changed in the car compared to other models where you copy things.
I have now put the heigth to 80mm, but the taller tires will raise the car little bit more.

I didn't copy anything from mk8 Golf.

You are very funny.
Here is an example of a car with a higher ground clearance:

spats are in that about 60mm in that iX and car has air suspension which I guess will lower the car to reach that 0,25 drag coefficient. That is about the correct heigth for front spats if they are shaped like they are on that car.
Did you design the ID3 aerodynamics?
In the evening did some more testing.
100km/h outside temps 23-24 celsius
Windows up 2 run average 16,4kWh
Windows down 2 run average 16,9kWh
Difference is 3,0% in my test. I had the ac on in the test fan at minimum, like all tests so far.
Lastly I tried what is effect if I take ac fully off 15,8 kWh average thats 3,6% difference and 600watts of power.

That indicates pretty clearly that there is something wrong with your testing, by a factor of two or more. At least is it's wrong in the right direction ie conservative.

I thought windows up/down was to establish a baseline (above noise level). How can the baseline be wrong?
Does windows up always reliably make a 6% improvement?

Because it doesn't anywhere near match the aero drag created on other cars - see Katz (2016) and, for a current electric car comparison, Edgar (2021).

Julian
Have you tested ac on or ac off when windows down? Have the outside temp put to aircon request temp?
What speed you used?
I will do today new test ac off and fan at min and temp request same as outside temp to see what happens.

Insight only has front windows. Other cars, all windows.
