Question Washington Post story on hypermilers

Hi. My name is Nancy Trejos. I am a reporter for The Washington Post. I am working on a story about hypermilers and would like to interview people in D.C., Maryland or Virginia about how they get the most out of the expensive gasoline they are buying. I would also like to drive around the D.C. area with this person and hear what tips he or she has to give for doubling my gas mileage. Because of my deadline, I would have to do this tomorrow or Wednesday (June 11). Can any of you help? If you get this message tonight, please call me at 202-250-9659. Otherwise, you can email me at trejosn@washpost.com. Thanks so much.

Nancy, read around on the forum and see what tips look fairly straightforward and easy to do - like turning your car off at the longer lights, or practicing "anti-traffic," which is finding and maintaining the average speed of stop-and-go, and just doing that rather than the actual stop-and-go. Lord knows the Inner Loop could use that some days.

Good luck finding someone local.

Dang, this almost makes me want to run up real fast and offer the ride...

Hello,

I'm on the east coast, but no where near the DC area.

I heard a pretty lame story on NPR today (I'm a bit shocked and surprised, really). All they said was you need to change your driving habits, and the people who practice hypermiling are sorta' crazy nutcases! They talked about driving barefoot -- but they didn't even mention tire pressure.

Nancy, I do believe we have a member MetroSchultz in VA, but I can't speak for him as to whether he's available/would want to be interviewed. I will send him a private message though.

Also: I assume you've seen the 100+ hypermiling / eco-driving tips...
