Us diesel guys running water injection don't do any special filtering and we expect to get at least twice the miles of any gas motor.
If we are not worried about it you don't have to worry about it.

Feel free to over complicate the process as much as possible so you have an excuse to never road test it.

I found some info on briggs & stratton motors, here is a link to set the timing.
Briggs Stratton

Of interest it speaks of adjusting the timing for kerosene use by moving the armature bracket all the way to the left and adjusting the armature air gap to 0.25 to 0.36mm

If you need more advance then possible by adjusting the magneto or the armature then you could file out the key slot on the flywheel and make a key to fit.

will the steam actually slow the flame front? I can understand water, as it sucks heat from the process.

But do you think steam or EGR would slow the flame front?

why would you want to do this? what is wrong with sending water with salts, organics, etc?

I would think saturated steam would be fine with solids, and injectors obviously pass chunks up to 5 microns or so (the size of most OEM fuel filters.)

Well to be honest miller it would be stupid easy to do and would ensure you have filtered clean water.
If you disapprove of quality control of the water then so be it. I still will suggest you should filter it before you put the water in your on-board tank.
Why you ask? to remove the minerals and prevent the accumulation of salts.

This is the first time I have seen any one worry about whats in the water other than dirt that can be filtered out.

I only suggested the use of a ceramic filter because someone corrected miller for saying to use a automobile fuel filter to filter the water. I merely suggested a water filter to filter the water with, as oppose to the gasoline filter miller suggested.
A water filter for filtering water? not that far of a stretch..
Lets move onto bigger things.

I don't know what you have planned but when I am on the road over a thousand miles from home purified tap water isn't an option.
Its nice to have, I use extra clean tap water when around home, because I can and I like to.
Since water injection is proven to clean out every thing in the intake and nearly every think in the combustion chamber anything tap water leaves behind will be a tiny fraction of what the water removed.
You can always add wind shield washer fluid for added cleaning power, a little methanol and soap goes a long way, seafoam is also a possibility.

I had the intake off my diesel a few days ago and it was perfectly clean.

Any filter is better than no filter. Running no filter on your water injection system can allow dirt in and jam open a solenoid and cause your water injection system to leak water into your engine when its not running.
Even if you have purified water you can always get dirt contamination during transfer.

oil pan you have got to give me a link to some info on your water injection system.
What gains and benefits do you personally see in your vehicle with water injection?
