A friend recently posted that she needed someone to replace her spark plugs.
Wait, what?
I replaced the spark plugs and wires in my Accord in front of a car wash next to the garage where the mechanic said "I'm not fixing your car! You fix your car!"
"Will you please reinstall the spark plugs and wires?"
"No! You do it! Not here!"
"If you will not replace my spark plugs and wires, how am I supposed to get my car out of here?"
"Get it towed!"
So, this was the end of the world, and I absolutely needed to remove my car immediately, so he ordered me to call a tow truck, which would probably take an hour?
He could have charged me to reinstall the parts!
Just not a full hour. Are you kidding?!
So, I shoved my car into the street, someone from AutoZone helped me push it into the next parking lot, I walked home and came back with my wrench and spark plug socket, and a couple of minutes later I drove home.
Reinstalling the spark plugs and wires was the quick and easy part of this experience.
My then-girlfriend replaced the spark plug wires in my Civic. Seriously, it is child's play--unless, apparently, you buy a vehicle designed by a company that seems to hate its customers.
A while ago she complained that she needed to replace the battery in her car, which was located in the bumper. Sure, free real estate, but aren't you supposed to limit bumper components to things designed to bump?
Why doesn't Tesla install half of their batteries in the front bumper and half in the back one?
I commented on my friend's post a couple of weeks ago and she responded today, then messaged me. I skimmed her recent posts.
She also needs someone to replace her motor mounts. I am unsure that I have ever needed to replace those. I certainly haven't since I starting doing as many repairs as possible myself some years ago.
How many miles does this terrible car have?
67,000, but they are Dodge miles. I have known her for several years and she has had one terrible Dodge after another. Nobody likes my Hondas, but I have had one for over five years. They have about 220,000 miles each.
My Accord has 3.3 times as many miles, cost me $250, and is more reliable than the car that she bought new?!
Someone commented that not everybody is obsessed with reliable cars. Some people just want an exciting car. I do not need the excitement of "Will my car get me to work today?!" and "Will my car even start today?!"
