There was something that I wanted to share, but I didn't get to it. Was it that our garage door got messed up on a Friday evening and I was positive that Mom would need to replace it that Monday, but I fixed it Saturday morning with a hammer (and other basic hand tools)?

In four and a half years I have always gotten my progress reports done on-time, but it is always nice to make the deadline and have it behind me. Unfortunately, I was sick the week that I would have written them for the school where I work, and I was unable to work on them over Christmas break, but I wrote them in about a day once I was back to work.

Those were long days!

Mom was out of town for four days and I took care of my brother. It was extra work, but I got him to bed earlier than Mom did, nobody watched any Hallmark, and neither of us were blamed for anything the entire time she was away!

Now for the bad. I was trying to do paperwork, but apparently there was a girl next door with what I call "Humming Tourettes." She was constantly going "Mmmm mmmmmmm mmm" as she worked and for some reason I was unable to get anything done. When the student left and stopped humming I asked the teacher, who said the student does not even know she is making the noise.

I couldn't ignore it!

I was able to find the spare control panel for our stove - and I swapped it on - and our stove works, again!

I was not looking forward to buying a new stove - which meant we needed a fair amount of electrical work done.

I repaired a couple of CH radiator valves the other day.

The radiator in my son's room was stone cold despite the thermostat valve set to high.
I detached the thermostat valve to reveal the valve pin. I pressed and pulled it but it would not move.
I was planning to have the valve body replaced, then I chanced upon a tip to oil the pin or hit the body (not the pin!) with a hammer.
I gave it a tiny droplet of oil and it popped right out within a second! Working again

Then one of two big radiators in the living room was cold too. but the (non-thermostat) valve knob was non-removable... I tried squirting lock spray under the head to lube the valve pin, if it chanced to reach there. No dice.
I gently tapped the valve body from below with a hammer and immediately the radiator started to warm up!

I met a cute girl for breakfast and we had a great chat. It was kind of weird that her mom was there, but since I asked out the mom in the first place...

Why didn't she tell me that she was bringing her daughter?

Why did she keep using her phone?

It is cool. We have dated on and off for five and a half years. Well, we had two dates right after my dad passed away, which she does not remember it at all. Then today.

When our garage door broke I realized the door into the garage didn't latch. After breakfast I bought some chisels and relocated the strike plate.

Hopefully the house keeps warm air a little better!

Now to pick something else from my increasingly-long to-do list...

I do not like how I fixed the latch. I needed to move the plate so much that I needed a longer screw to reach through the latch... hole.

There is not much wood back there, but I do not know what to do. I tried to trim a tiny piece of wood to glue in there, but would it hold a screw?

If the hole is at the correct position but just too wide you can drill it out and use a wall plug of that diameter. The wall plug will grip the screw while preventing the wood from splitting. Maybe glue it in for extra grip.

My one client canceled, so I am trying to catch up on notes for my other job. I thought that I would be finished by now, but I keep waiting endless minutes for pages to load.

My last post was depressing, but this entertained me:

I really want to see someone leading Soldiers or Marines in a march, calling this cadence!

I used the lumberjack song once. I had two actual goals in my military career, and that was one of them.

It didn't go over well.

I am unfamiliar with that one, at least by that name. Can you link it?
