What're people using for MTF?

Getting a bit of bearing noise out of my transmission. Been thinking about putting GM synchromesh in, but does anyone else have a better idea?

Thanks for all the advice lately

I went with royal purple in the weight my owner's manual suggested.

I went with Valvoline 75W-80, or something like that. I would have liked to get something like Royal Purple, or the syncromesh, but I was on a pretty tight budget. I don't think mine necessarily needed a change, but I definitely noticed a difference shifting after putting the new fluid in.

Changing the fluid to anything should help if there's already a noise, do you know if it's leaking at all?

Moreys additive. Just changing the old oil helps.

Do you have problems down shifting? Is the noise only when the clutch is depressed or only when is not depressed?
Make sure you know exactly what the problem is. You don't want to put in $42 worth of syn mtx oil and find the problem is something else and you need to drain the trans and buy another $42 of oil.
Otherwise, there is a list....somewhere around here....of the thinest mtx fluids, measured in cintistrokes. I beleive VW's was the thinest.

This is what I got from a sticky over at TDIClub.com advising people to stick with vw fluid in their tranny.

Viscosity Comparison @ 100 C

6.3 = OEM G52 (part numbers G052726A2 / G05272601)
10.6 = Redline MTL 70-80
13.8 = Amsoil MTG 75-90
15.2 = Motul Gear 300 75-90
15.6 = Redline MT-90 75-90
15.0 = Elf Tranself Synthese FE 75-90
16.7 = Motul MOTYLGEAR 75-90

I like the Amsoil. Put it in and forget about it.
