What's your best motorcycle MPG?

ok, i understand.
also i know that diesel is far better then gas or normal petrol. things overhere are as follow; diesel is about 1.1 euro, petrol is about 1.5 euro's and liquid petrol gas is about 0.5 euro. i would like to drive my second recumbent watercooled motorbike on LPG so i can fill it up for less then with petrol. a very small efficient diesel engine with a minimum of 4 to 5 gears is difficult to find so i will stay with the honda 125 fourstroke. this one costs allmost nothing to run and a friend of mine drives it to over 200MPG. when i can make a 130 mpg on LPG i'm running my day's ride for under 0.01 euro a km. that's my goal.

yeah, those MPG numbers they quote are crap. the only bike i ever had that got what they claimed was a 2009 YAMAHA ZUMA 125. they claimed 89 MPG. i think i got 85-88. so pretty close on the button.

However, it's not impossible to get better than the 'official' figures

maybe when you're following a truck but i have never reached the official numbers. these numbers are only achieved on a special run, with a vary of steps and a very little one at normal speed. numbers you can never reach when you travel normal roads and the lot on a highway.... ( my opinion, as a dutch highway commuter )

AMDparts as I understand the official ratings; is that they are only usefull for comparison between vehicles, and are only marginaly useful in determining actuel FE for a specific driver or driving condition. The affect of the driver on FE is about 20% - 25% as others have noted. I for one can get above or below EPA rating on any of my vehicle simply by changing driving style; acceleration and speed...

i don't know what the standard of these tests is but what i saw is that they are nowhere near the same as the every day use of a vehicle.

AMDparts The Canadian city cycle is 12km, 32km/hr average speed, top speed 91km/hr, 18 stops, 4 minute idleing time, 23 minutes long, cold start and hot start part of cycle...

The highway cycle is 16km, average speed 77km/hr, top speed 97km/hr, 13 minutes long, no stops, varied speeds...

And deceleration. The way you use your existing momentum is very important!

i'm see something on a Dutch site about a 2009 EU economy test ;

"the hybrid cars were 16 to 18% more expensive then stated, a honda civic 16% , a bmw 520d about 18% and a tested ford was a terrible 57% more expensive !

there were more numbers but it's clear , it's impossible or really hard to get the factorynumbers..


so i've taken my scooter and changed it to my recumbent one !
