I run 55-60 PSI on 44 PSI tires. Some tires handle it better than others. What are the roads like in South Africa?

Between 80 and 120 psi, depending on which bike I ride, 60 psi for the studded snows. Car tires I run around 44 psi.

After 50 psi the gains are minimal, I run 40 in all but my XFE 50+ works for me.

44psi tires that i keep about 60psi when warmed-up and hopefully not less than 54psi when cold. But your tires and your road conditions matter a lot for what you should do for comfort and safety.

Between 40 and 44 PSI. Would go higher, but some of the roads here are extremely crappy, plus I have passengers that like a little smoother ride. If tire pressure wasn't an issue in getting good FE, then I'd be running 36, which seems to be optimal for comfort, grippiness, and maybe wear (not much, just a little).

There have been long and acrimonious debates about tire pressure. The problem is where is the line between safe and unsafe.

Your starting point in all this would be the vehicle tire placard, which is usually located on the driver's doorframe, but sometimes is in the glovebox, on the fuel filler door or in the trunk (boot). The tire placard will list the original tire size and the vehicle manufacturer's specification for that size.

The further you go from that value, the greater the risk. Risk of what? Traction issues, wear issues, rough ride, etc.

As a tire engineer, I don't recommend using more than 5 psi more than what is listed on the vehicle tire placard, but others have different opinions.

52 psi

My tires are 52 psi on 44 rated tires, and I like the ride better.

I run 50 PSI in tires rated for 47 PSI. I suspect that I'd get slightly better traction on snow if I dropped the pressure in winter, but the traction I get is good enough.

Thanks guys so many inputs and opinions. However I need a new tyre first just found the biggest gash in one of the side walls. Highway roads here are fine however they have recently been re surfaced with a very course layers of tar that is quite noisy. I will go up in increments but the car is fairly new so it has alot more sound dentining than older cars.

Maybe the noise is due to larger open spaces on the underside.
