This is a side view of the car with the wheels covered:
The rear wheels have the coroplast painted black covering most of the hub cap. 6 #6x1/2 screws were put through the coro into the hubcaps
The front caps were just taped over using clear plastic packaging tape.
I might go with this on the back too, but the black discs, do add a statement, and I've had many inquiries about "what the heck are you doing now? ? ?"

Well,
after just over a week of the wheel covers I can confirm,
no major improvement!
Actually my mileage has declined a bit
but I have been doing some more back road driving than I normally do.
But on the positive,
The blacked out back wheels have gotten a bunch of attention,
and I've informed about 6 people about this site.
Maybe we will get more converts

The middle picture in the sequence above.
The coroplast wheel-cover covers painted black.
They really standout on the car,
especially when people expect the same old silver/chrome wheel covers/rims.

Convincing other people to do a little bit is a major improvement.
I'm currently saving 30%. If I can convince 10 people to save 10% then this is far better than I will ever do.
If they are curious enough to ask about that then they are half convinced. They can't be curious if nothing attires their attention, so keep your blacked out back wheels.
Denis.

The coro was cut just a bit smaller than the wheel covers to give that silver outline look.
don't think it would look bad all black tho.
Fortunately the wheel covers were flat to the rims,
so just the flat coro covered them easliy.
If the center was convex, it would make it harder to use the coro.
Then maybe using the shipping tape idea, like the front wheels,
but then sprayed black.

The more I see the resulting mpg gain, the more I think the cheapest way is the best.
(Using tape, caulking, coroplas, or pizza plates)
Paying $100+ for a 1mpg gain doesnt make sense to me.
(Unless its aestetic of course)
