There are a couple of RAV4s in Vail. My cousin had a RAV4 as a company car when they were still around, and she let me drive it.
The accelerator also acted as a brake with the regen, and it took a little getting used to having to back slowly off the accelerator, but the only time you ever had to touch the brake was to come to a complete stop. So you don't use up brake pads, you don't use up oil, you only have to keep the bearings lubed, a lot fewer moving parts to wear out... No wonder they killed these things. It's the same way GM killed the metro train systems in the 40s, in order to put more cars on the road.
