Biggest problem now is getting the ICE up to temp, starting plugging the block heater in for a couple of hrs before driving to work. ICE gets to temp quicker saving fuel plus less wear on the ICE. Visiting Buffalo NY today with snow on the ground, will have to see how things go, winter tires have been on for a couple of weeks now, FE has taken a bit of a hit.

Unfortunately for me I dont have the opportunity to park close enough to my 3rd story flat to run out a block heater..
I make do with letting the car idle whilst clearing the snow- it then means I can run the heater to shift the ice on the inside.
Its usually upto temp within 3 mins of driving

Last year at this time my 3-tank average was 24.6mpg. I was pissed, and started looking up fuel economy improvement tips, which led me to this site.
My current 3-tank average, one year later to the day, is 33.7mpg.
Thanks Ecomodder.com!

Neddy - From what I've heard (professors commuting into Rochester), parts of Buffalo are pretty ugly at the moment.

had 6+ on the cars the other morning, and headding to anchorage for shopping and a night on the town, had to take the Civic as it's the one with door locks, a key for the ignition and what not. Had to plow through 6+ inches on the road for a mile to the main road, and still managed 38 on the drive into town at 65mph. The first mile was below 10mpg and we left a civic underbody shaped wake. If I had put belly pan on this summer I coulda slipped right over the top and doubled my mileage.

Took 5.5 hrs to do 30 miles yesterday-the whole road network was gridlocked.
Thankfully I was able to sit in the queues with my engine off- so the car was only running when moving.
Stillr eckon I'll be lucky to see 400 out this tank.

I did 3 miles in 2.5 hours yesterday with the same gridlock running Jnr to school. And as soon as I got home the school called to say it was closing. By then it was snowing thickly so I walked back and then walked him home. Lucky I did because in between home and school is a big dip and even buses were stuck with wheels spinning.
Still at least I wasn't stuck on the motorway for 8-12 hours like some of my customers.

glad you got the wee man back ok!
it's still very bad out-the lumps of ice on the road are bloody hairy.
That said, the burd's clio seemed to take it in its stride. The scab is abandoned at the bottom of the carpark in a foot of snow. Sshe did well, so deserves a rest

Off to try the school run again this morning. Dug out the drive (7 or 8th time this week) and plenty of own bought grit as the bins are empty. We shall see if we can make it.
Did you see the latest apology for the chaos ? They were using the wrong weather forecast apparently.
This comes after it wasn't forecast, oh - er, yes it was...
