winter snow success:)

My latest tank included 3days of heavy snow filled commuting-totalling 150 miles and 12hrs driving..

I refilled my tank- 12.52 uk gallons for 424.4 miles

Thats 33.88 uk mpg-still 2mpg over the published mixed mileage

Not too shabby.

Whats even better- still on summer tyres and 40psi

How are others getting on?

plugging away with the VW diesel, been getting lower 40s, been cool though at 0-20 degrees, and we just had some fresh snow. The civic has been parked, it lacks ground clearance and the heater is not as good, Though before I parked it I was still pulling lower 40s.

how do you gusy do it... i can't seem to find any eco friendly way do drive safely in snow packed roads with bumper to bumper traffic my FE took a nosedive,
i traditionally suffer a 10 mpg dip during the winter
even with my freshly installed undertray... i suppose i might see better results when i can drive at speeds again where aero matters, and at the same time its keeping the sludge out of my engine, but FE wise winter is the most depressin time for me

Drove home in snow tonight. Only about 1/2 inch on the roads but I was able to get over 40 mpg which isn't that bad.

Been running around 46 mpg with just the cold weather.

Winter is hard on FE, not much to be done about it. Try to keep all the heat in that you can, IE grille block, warm air intake, and so forth. Winter gas has less BTUs as well, so a gallon is only about 98% of the energy in a summer gallon....

still gettin late 40's (US) / late 50's (UK) cold start problem sorted but this tank will be shot because I had the car idling while I charge battery packs for the RC car I was reviewing in the snow and obviously to keep my fingers from ffffffffreezing to my camera between shoots! some decent pics thought, shame I can't share until they're published

Helga is still a skodacycle and with her low-ish tyres she will probably stay there. My work has 2ft in the roads and car park and the council are not ploughing it. So I'm using my 'working from home' abilities.

I just had my best tank to date (40.6 US mpg) and this next tank stands to be even better. The primary reason on the last tank was finally getting comfortable with EOC'ing, thus having my car off for anywhere from 8.5-14 miles of my 26.3 mile commute. The high end was last week when I had an amazing tail wind (probably close to 40mph) on the way to work and it stopped before I had to go home.

This weekend we did a 2.5 hour drive to Glenwood Springs and 2.5 hours back. My outbound mpg was 47.7 according to my scangauge and the return leg was 44mpg. With that start on the work week and over a half tank left, I suspect I might have a chance to stretch it to a new tank distance record, maybe even hit the 500 mile mark.

Overall, we're starting with a relatively mild winter. While temps in November dropped, they're getting back up into the 50F range this week. I also garage my car in a 55F garage, gravity drop about 8 miles with only one or two 5 second accelerations, otherwise it's all EOC now. I suspect once the roads start icing up as we get our real winter, I'll be forced to leave the engine running for functioning ABS and my mileage will subsequently drop into the mid-30s. Considering last year I was averaging 27-28mpg in the winter, I have no room to complain.

Sooo Jealous, we've had barely andy snow but a fair bit of black ice, I could do with being snow'd in so i can catch up on some sleep!
