Not really an option when you need the car.
Unlike others around here, I don't have a pool of vehicles, just this one.

It's beyond the dealer.
They were very upfront about it and don't know what's causing it.
Hmm, sounds like you're myred in the usual muddle between dealer and Head offce.. BMW are prone to this too (e.g. e46 m3 rear mounts..)

My mates one is currently being repaired free of charge after sending emails to BMW UK with the GMBH lot CC'd in..

Is public transport not a short term option- or carshare?

Good work keeping a level head!

It's escalated to the head office by the dealer.
I don't see that as a muddle, it's the normal thing to do when they're clueless.

I've spent a few years in tech customer service, I still know the tricks. Angry agitated customer doesn't really work, so I won't play that game.

So I'll happily give them time to sort difficult issues.
But don't worry, I'll equally happily give them hell for not sorting it eventually

Such a scheme worked well for a friend of mine with an Audi
They send him on his way with a loose wheel !

Public transport ?
There is no public transport whatsoever where I work - even though that's in the largest economic zone of the country : Antwerp Harbour.

It's also 5 miles to the nearest bus stop of my employer's bus network, and I'd have to be there well before I usually start from home.
No guarantee that I'd still find my bike or moped there after working the graveyard shift.
So that's not really a viable option either.

Some dealers/service stations give a replacement car for the time of the repairs. Maybe you could get one for the duration of your protest?

For over a month ?
I don't see such a thing happening anywhere here with an old car.
If it was brand new, you could get that done.

The most recent regeneration took almost 40 km / 25 miles !
I guess they'd better come up with a solution

I'm sure you have tried another dealer, but if not it may be worth a shot. Sometimes a smaller dealer can have more experienced people employed especially if it is off the beaten track.

I'm using what is by far the smallest Volvo dealership in the region - still part of a larger chain though - and that's not entirely by accident

There are some, but I'll go the Volvo way first.

Hägar blew a headlight bulb tonight, so I got under the hood and replaced the pair of them with brighter lights.

I thought I could just as well check the oil while I was at it - it's already above the yellow end of the dipstick
That's about twice as far over the maximum as the difference between Max and Min !

That's after a mere 2000 miles since the last maintenance.

Will check again tomorrow, then it's off to the dealer for fresh oil.

It's much more time consuming to remove oil than add it.

Was it at the correct level when you had it serviced?
