Let's see what new glow-plugs and a fresh particle filter bring in terms of FE

I have tried P+G (engine on) but it doesn't appear that I can pulse efficiently enough to make it worthwhile.

whats your 'real money' mpg? ie imperial?

Would be very interesting to do a-b-a-b testing over a fixed 20km course..

A= yourself setting benchmark using your current hypermiling strategy.
B=Another driver using the p&g plus engine braking methods

80km total testing would keep the cost of fuel down, and give representative sampling. Could be run twice?

Be interesting to see what a derv would be capable of..

My best tank so far is 4.5 L/100km or 62.8 mpg(UK)

Unless I can use Ford's proving ground in Lommel, there's no such thing as a fixed course around here .
Traffic is far too dense and erratic for reproduceable results on a 30+km stretch.

Even between 5 and 5:30 AM there are serious differences between my commutes. Trucks are also allowed to overtake before 6 AM.

Roadworks are going on at 1 spot in my commute, and another works site will be set up shortly, so I expect to see varying FE in the next month(s).

1 spot ?

Come to Edinburgh. About a 1:1 ratio of road to roadworks at the moment, so hundreds of thousands of idling cars wasting fuel.

And what are they building ?

Bloody trams.

And... Breathe!

in tramtopia you'll be able to avoid the a720, and get to work warm, dry and comfortable..

assuming that they ever finish building them

Sadly, no. It goes nowhere near where I live or where I work. Goes nowhere near the A720. I doubt it would make much of a difference compared with upping bus frequencies TBH. Waste of money.

It manages to get in the way though.

Especially now its so behind schedule.

So far I had managed to keep my mileage above 48mpg since the repairs to my car, but winter has set in a bit early this year and it has left its mark
FE is down by almost 3.5 mpg (eq. to 0.4L/100km) on the latest tank.

With the drop in temperature, the tires were down to a mere 2.5 bar/36psi, and I could feel the extra drag when coasting.
So I inflated them to 3.1bar/45psi again.

The ScanGauge calibration seems to have worked.
On the latest tank it was only 0.6L off the mark for total fuel consumption, while the average was spot on (i.e. error smaller than 0.1 L/100km) and identical to the car's OBC.
The weird thing is that the SG is always indicating a lot higher FC than the OBC

Well, I had hoped to stay above the 47mpg it's rated for.

I had been toying with the idea of getting a new - even more efficient - car, but I've decided to keep the V50 for another 5 or more years.

That means winter tyres are a worthwhile investment with all this frozen global warming fud on the ground, so I put a set of Michelin Alpin A4 GreenX tyres on the Cordelia 16" rims I took off in September.

The bloke at the tyre center was more than a bit surprised when I asked him to put 3 bar (43.5psi) in them
I've looked for the maximum rated pressure, but it's nowhere to be found on the tyre

We'll see what mpg they return on the considerably lighter Cordelia rims.

The Alpin A4 doesn't seem to be available in NA yet.

When the tire guy asked what pressure I wanted, I told him I ran just under the maximum 3.5 bar. He said that's too much and gave me the regular 2.5 bar The bicycle pump helped me burn quite a few calories the next day...
