An automatic Metro in good running condition can get 38 MPG or even 40+ if you drive it right. I would check out the Geo Metro Buyer's Guide before you buy it.

An automatic Metro still gets better mileage than almost all other automatic cars.

Um, I thought all Auto metros were 4sp? Also a word of note in terms of autos it doesn't matter if you have 3 sp or 30speeds your fe on the highway is only as good as your final drive ratio and lockup allows, meaning more gears doesn't help highway FE on an auto, since all autos have roughly the same losses.

A 98 Neon with a 5 speed is rated at 41 mpg and has a lot more room. Id wait for a 5 speed Geo 3 banger.

Don't think so. 3 speed, non-locking is all I've seen. (Which is amazing when you consider that old-fashioned tech was still on the market up to 2001!)
