You have to pull a "now how in the world did that happen?" routine for the toll collector when you forgot to bump start and have to turn the key to leave a tollbooth.

... you wake up late for work,
ditch all this hypermiling stuff and floor it ;
go 10 kph over the PSL everywhere ;
you have to brake at least as much as in your last 10 commutes ;
... yet you somehow still manage 44.5 mpg - or better than you ever got when this was your normal driving style

YKYAEM when you feel mildly guilty for thinking "I hope I run this tank down to a quarter soon - where else do I need to go?"
...at least it was all in an effort to calibrate instrumentation.

get your alignment checked. If it is out the reduced traction will allow your tires to scrub without the hit to the mileage.

Possible, but Fat Charlie's increase was more likely due to plain ol' Slowing Down.

Bingo, Tango! Fresh rubber, fresh alignment. P&G between 55 and 65 is good, but doing it between 35 and 45 is better no matter how sloppy the pavement is.

When you just can't wait for the snowstorm to be over, and melt enough to take the studded snowtires off, because you want your mpg. back yesterday, plus wanting to keep
the snow tires like new...used 2 days in 4 yrs.!
Of course I have them on extra wheels for my version of a NASCAR tire change.
What a blessing to have a good floorjack, up the middle, whole frontend up quick,
all done is less than 10 min.
Conclusion: Absolutely cringe at the sound of un-needed studded tires going by,
when you really know most of those people are not skiers, and both sets of tires
have to go through the abuse of mounting,dis,m,dis! (sigh)
