Congraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaats

I hope to reach the 1100mi this summer (now the 1111.1 but I'll never reach the 80mpg, my mpg goal is only low 70s which is enough with a 15.85 gal tank.

Your new pb is so incredible, noticeably for a nearly stock car.

Are your tires always at 60psi and what is their max sidewall ?
Do you always use 5w20 oil ?
What is your commute and techniques like ?

Thanks in advance,

Denis.

Tires are down to 60 now. I had them higher a few months ago, but they've drifted down. I don't find any benefit above 60.

I always use Mobil1 5w20. This car calls for 5w30, but I use the lower weight for less friction. It's also what the other car calls for, so I use the same in both. Easier to stock only one in the garage.

My commute is rolling hills, 50-100 feet elevation change up and down. 10 miles, with a mix of 35, 45 and 55 mph speed limits. 3 stop signs and 4 traffic lights. I choose this particular route because most of it is multi-lane roads and I don't hinder traffic from going past.

I do Pulse & Glide (eoc) with a 25 to 40 mph spread (Scangauge says 25 mph average, but that's counting stops). I adjust that a little higher and lower in certain spots and for traffic. I drive as if I have no brakes - my best run I touched the pedal 5 times (including when I parked at work). That involves anticipating the light cycles so I can roll through on the green.

There's one spot, on a flat hilltop, where I roll along at ~10 mph for half a mile. Those neighbors give me looks.

Thanks Andrew for this reply.

I simply keep my tires at sidewall (51psi), I may try more this summer when the min temps will be more stable.

I'm also using a lower weight oil : synth 5w30 instead of 10w40.

I'm a big fan of DWB (Driving without brakes / driving with buffer) but with the exits and entries on my commute roads the speed is very variable and except during holidays, good brakes are a must

I should try to count my number of break touches, this may be a good parameter
I'll permit me to not count my very light break touches I do when I begin to coast so people behind me know that I'm slowing down.

Last summer my records were beaten with P&G (EOC). On French roads people accept people driving slowly, but not variable speed. As I'm blind (no real time fuel consumption display) this year I prefer using DWL with a speed at around PSL-20km/h (12mph) when PSL>=90km/h (56mph).

I'm always using EOC, noticeably in the morning during the first 8 km (5mi) between lights and round about.

My car is given more and more looks, but for different reasons

Denis.

30 MPG on the freeway, 28 with a mix of conditions. I'm trying hard to get consistent tank averages at or above 30!

Maybe I'll switch to 5w20 instead of 30 and see what that gets me.
