Been following this thread from the beginning. Too bad I can't use one for my reverse trike I need to get started on.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, here's Ebay info for $100.00 each for REAR carrier differential, and $100.00 Shipping from Texas. Buy it Now, no bidding.

04-13 Toyota Highlander Rear Differential Carrier Assembly AWD My Link didn't work. Just copy/paste at Ebay.

I'm interested, but in the reverse trike. I'll leave it to someone else to touch eBay.

The Toyota/Lexus part has an open differential. The Arcimoto SRK, for instance, has twin motors and torque vectoring. As the supply of Toyo parts dwindles, Acura MDX and, I believe, some Honda model will be shipping soon with a twin motor rear axle. IOW better parts later.

Sit-on, caged or enclosed tricycle?

Similar to Can Am Spyder-Arcimoto cross design. Leaner if at all possible. Don't want a flat steer car type machine.

Pulling some pictures forward as a point for discussion.

Currently in hand:
  • Lexus MGR
  • rear mount - 81651G
  • front bolts - 90109 12082

needed
  • crossbar - 52380F
  • washer/spacer - 41653D

Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com - freebeard's Album: aero technical - Picture

The rear mount (81651G) appears to float in a round cutout in the subframe with little constraint fore-and-aft. The front mounts are on about a 4" lever arm. The connection is about 6" directly above the VW transmission mount. The rear mount face is in plane with the VW engine/transmission mount.

Replace crossbar - plate box or U-shaped tube?
Toyota or VW rubber mounts or both?

I'm going to use a Goldwing swingarm with 3 to 1 gear reduction and a mid drive motor, which I already have. I want the front wheels to lean so, the MGR would not work.

Recently bought another bunch of Volt battery modules to run 123V hot off the charger.

I'm not sure how I got there, but I found this in a Pelican Parts thread. Probably an expensive part:

Quote:
The rubber doughnut (called a guibo) is a high durometer elastomeric casting with metal inserts. They work the same as a U-Joint but not like a U/Slip Joint combo. German cars such as Benz have supplied them for years on productions cars. Primary benefit on vehicles that have drivetrain misalignment such as a high axel angle to stub axel plane. They are also good for high vibration and high shock applications as they give and may save transmission and differential gears from sustaining damage in high HP applications.

Very interesting. Thank you.
It looks similar to the "cush drive" in a street motorcycles rear hub.
So is the idea that this'll give before the trans, or just to take up some of the shock before it gets further into the drive train?
Possibly a good choice to mate the Toyota flange to an arbitrary axle? Or are the axles not subject to shock loads that clutches succumb to?

Those were used in the old Triumph GT6's when they were first experimenting with independant rear suspension. They were an improvement over swing arms and U-joints but I think the rzeppa joints replaced them fairly quickly.

I'm going with Rzeppa joints for my setup - they're compact, long lasting, you can find a whole bunch of different varieties to match whatever power you want to transmit, and they're surprisingly cheap.

Thanks.

The news from me is that I got a Baja Bug rear bumper ($10). Next time I'm upriver I'll level up the MGR, the Lexus subframe and the tube bumper and see about combining the latter two. I still don't have the front mount crossbar.

Financial things move slowly.

Boy, I hear you...

It seems I have all sorts of projects that take precident over the one I'd LIKE to do.

The most recent is my truck. I swapped a small diesel into a 4wd Toyota, and I'd been working great for about 5 years. It just blew.

Time for a new diesel; At least it's ecomodding of a sort.

Rubber donuts are used in Russian RWD Vaz models, Chevrolet/Vaz Niva

I wonder if the unit could be used for generating power with a waterwheel?
