I always like the first gen VW Beetles, when you could swap parts from cars over 20 years different ages. With aero as a prime factor, at least in my consideration, it would be nice to see a body style like the 1st gen Insight just keep going on without the planned obsolescence stupidity.
Maybe some day.

The 1st gen Insight didn't have a back seat and the Prius needs to have a relatively comfortable back seat for taxi use. I think the 3rd gen Prius looks fine and struck a good compromise of aerodynamics and usable interior space.
I don't know what the interior of the Tesla is like, but it's even more slippery and looks fantastic. Prius could adopt some of the styling of the Tesla without ruining the aerodynamics. |

Though the Prius can be considered an icon, almost as much as the Ford Model T and the VW Beetle, maybe it would make more sense to just let it go instead of ruining its design, as its initial purpose of increasing the popularity of hybrid drivelines is already accomplished.

The only limiting factor against the 1st-gen Insight for most folks being the seating limited to 2, maybe fitting 2 or 3 jump-seats for occasional usage at its rear compartment would be likely to suffice. |

Is the angle of the rear window correct in the image on post #1 ?
The front windshield angle is much steeper than the rear. ( why ??? )
The rear flanks of the car throw the car out of proportion. The wheels look tiny now.
The protruding bumper resembles a full diaper.

I see a lot to like in the new look. I like the changes in the shape of the greenhouse. Toyota is getting cleverer about optimizing the "shape" to be aero and not look too radically different from many of the other cars out there with low Cd. The light fixtures are not great. Mostly, I hope it brings down the price of the 3rd gen 2011 Priuses I have been watching...

More details coming out of Frankfurt auto show
A few more tidbits coming out...
- Downsized front electric motor, addition of rear drive motor for electric all-wheel drive (doesn't say if it's in all models or optional). Functional at speeds up to 37 mph
- downsized NiMH pack
- plug-in Prius electric-only range will be 15.5 miles, up from 11 miles in the gen 3 model, coming next year (Toyota really doesn't want to sell these, do they?)
