That was definitely $1300 for a set of four, or $10000 for 80,000mi worth of tires. "Performance" tires on RWD cars are often really expensive.

Ah, now that makes sense. Performance tires are very sticky and designed for high traction. Yeah they wear fast, but that is by design so that they can stick when the power is applied. My last set of tires were 225/50-16's and at 80 MPH I could easily break the tires free. Now with my 275/40-17's I have a much harder time breaking the tires free, which is exactly why I bought them. If the power can't be put to the ground, what's the point of having high horsepower? A friend of mine is pushing almost 1000 RWHP in his Supra (he did 853 RWHP with his automatic transmission, but just changed back to a 5-speed which should free up about 100 RWHP) and he has to run drag radials as street tires, and even then at half throttle he can still smoke the tires doing 80 MPH.

Now for the low horsepower cars like my Geo, sticky tires are useless and a good hard tire is desirable. Hell, my tires on my Supra have a max PSI of 50, but I run about 30 just so I can try and get traction.

The Michelins I put on my VX were discounted $60 a set of 4. Total price including mounting, lifetime balancing, road hazard, etc was $212 for 4.

Tread wear rating is 740. The original Bridgestones on the car were rated at 200. They were much noisier but got better mileage, handling was not good. Replaced them at 37k miles when they were 15.5 years old.

20k on the Michelins now, tread wear is practically nothing, but mileage has improved significantly. At this rate it will take another 80k miles or more to wear them out.

By the time I have 60k on them the rolling resistance will probably to close to the same as the original Bridgestones.

175-70-13 X.
740 treadwear -A traction-B temperature ratings
Got them from Costco.
They are the smallest and cheapest Michelins Costco sells.
The initial mileage hit was atrocious, compared to the original tires on the car (original when it was built in 8-93).
Odometer is 1% low becasue of larger diameter, I just add 1% to the ODO reading at fill ups.

Come on guys somebody is obviously being taken for a ride. I have a Trans am with wide low profile high performance tires on it. I am not sure they would even charge 1300 a tire for the tires on a Bugatti Veyron. I have had these kind of cars and been around them all my life. No body pays that much for a tire unless you are buying the best tires money can buy.

Actually, the tires on the veyron are more than $1300 each

It uses special Michelin PAX run flat tires, designed specifically to accommodate the Veyron's top speed, which reportedly cost $25,000 US per set

But if I'm not mistaken he is referring to $1300 per set of 4 tires, or $325 a piece. Still pricey, but more realistic

OK, that is just ridiculous. My tires are some nice and simple all terains, nothing too fancy, but grip like heck on pavement and in and out of the rain. At Discount Tire, they were $100 each, and out the door with 50,000 mile warrenty, tax and fee's was $562. I'm 20,000 miles through them, and they are just starting to show any wear. Probably will last safely through 60,000 or 70,000. Before someone starts shouting obscenities at their screen, I understand that I'm comparing apples to watermelons as far as the utility of both tire types, but it is what it is - just too rich for my blood.

For my Supra the 17" tires in the size I use are about $215 per tire. If I go to an 18" rim the price jumps to about $330 per tire. When you need some serious tires, you gotta pay dearly for them. But then again, that comes with the desire for more power. The more you have, the more it's going to cost you to drive and maintain.
