Lookin' good! It's really starting to come together into a finished product. I really like how the cap opens up like a trunck to give you more access.

Well...I'm committed to the new setup now. Removed all the remaining Coroplast from the aero cap.

With this cold front and rain, it's been rather fun to git the framing done...but it's done fer the most part.

I just have to size up the Foamular sides and hatch piece before I apply some 3M 77 spray to adhere the CommercialWrap Tyvek to it. The low temps will not be my friend when that happens. I'll be bolting the Foamular to the frame along with some washers or metal strips to make sure the Foamular won't git ripped off the frame.

Progress piccies so far...

New hatch frame...

Gas struts in place...

A quick overlay of the Foamular on the hatch...

I picked up some new J channels just in case I need to install them to keep the water from leaking into the bed from the hatch. I'll be installing some weather seal on the contact side of the aluminum angle in a bid to prevent water leakage.

This hatch setup is about 75% lighter than the wood framed Coroplast version. I'm guessing this version gonna weigh in around 25lbs.

I was going to ask how much this weighs, because all that tubing and wood looks heavy, but 25lbs. doesn't seem like much at all, especially compared to the aero benefit you're going to gain. Lookin' sharp!

Put in some side strips so I would have something on the same plane to screw the Foamular down to.

Figured since I have a bunch of Tyvek...I'd use that as a inner liner like they do on buildings, too!

Foamular screwed down...

Still need to work on the access doors...

...and the hatch lights are operational again!

Since it's too cold to apply the adhesive spray, I'll have to travel with the pink showing or I could try to paint it flat black and see how well the paint would take in this cold weather.

I love how accessible your setup makes the back of the truck... If I were to re-create my setup, I'd definitely consider a configuration like you've engineered. Lookin' good.

Burned up some more brain cells...

Figure I'd use up some more Tyvek and cover the sides. I know that Tyvek tape will perform just fine in cold weather...so that's one of the methods I used to secure the Tyvek to the Foamular. I was able to also make a rain gutter by folding the Tyvek in between the Foamular panel and where it drapes over the main support beam. I definitely won't need to use the J-channels so that's why they are in the truck bed to be returned back to Home Depot.

Piccies!

I still have to tape down the left side as I had to stop when the rain started back up again.

BZP, you should make your way to CA some time and I'll help you weld up a bed extension to match your shell.

Christmas wrapped the hatch panel with Tyvek.

Stuffed some scrap Foamular between the inner liner and the hatch panel so I could match the profile of the cab. Used some washers with my pan screws so they would have more holding power on the hatch panel. It will also make it easier to remove when the time comes.

Piccies!

Sandwich...

Close transition from the cab to aero cap...

No pink on this trip!
