You left out the sample return missions. The distances and time spans are different in space. The Voyager mission started in the 1970s.

Quote:
The Voyager primary mission was completed in 1989, with the close flyby of Neptune by Voyager 2. The Voyager Interstellar Mission (VIM) is a mission extension, which began when the two spacecraft had already been in flight for over 12 years.
____________

On 4 November 2019, scientists reported that, on 5 November 2018, the Voyager 2 probe had officially reached the interstellar medium (ISM), a region of outer space beyond the influence of the Solar System, and has now joined the Voyager 1 probe which had reached the ISM earlier in 2012.
The winds of political change are swift on Earth. The micro-nova happen on a 12,500-year cycle.

All this talk about whether the Amish will ever choose to go into space or not is all pretty interesting... but I don't know how related it is to the Aptera.

The way I see it is the Aptera seems to be on track for the one of the most efficient vehicles available for purchase. But it seems debatable how true that is. Or at least debatable if it's worth what you lose to get that level of efficiency.

I see where short, boxy cars make sense, especially in the city. But short and boxy is hard to make aerodynamic.

To get an ultra-aerodynamic shaped it needs to be long and thin. The Aptera seems to fit that description pretty well for what's basically a motorcycle. How long would a 4 door version have to be to have the same overall aerodynamic coefficient? As a former school bus driver I wouldn't mind a 30' (or longer) car that much, especially on the open highway. In town such a car might be a bit of a pain to drive though.

I wonder if there'd be a way to include an extendable tail on larger future versions of the Aptera so you could retract the tail for parking.

In spacecraft you only take essentials and hang them on the wall. Quakers would do fine.

Quakers might even be willing to try out an Aptera, unlike the Amish?

The edge case would be the Black Bumper Mennonites. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weaverland_Old_Order_Mennonite_Conference

They[ir ministers] drive what the kids call 'murdered-out' cars. The new Aptera prototype in black instead of white would be consistent with their beliefs.

Aptera and Elio

FYI

Aptera Reboot
Two Chief Finance
Twelve member board
Car shell composite build and design from a fiberglass boat builder
Deposit and waiting list and $25000 cost and production around end of 2021
Three wheel , solar panel, possible power flux lithium battery, long range, fewer plugin charges
EV
Sandy Munro review

Elio
Three wheel gasoline vehicle version.
Never mass produce

Both companies have had finance and production issues that have yet to make the mustard. Elio track record being the worse of the TWO.

We will see what happens

Or a chrome-deleted car, like the OEM Model Y?

They had body-colored bumpers in the 1920s.

Aptera's Q1 2021 investing round got them another ~$4 million.

https://www.aptera.us/post/aptera-cl...14bd00176e280a

If their initial estimates of what they needed to be able to enter / start production holds true .. That brings them down to the range of between $4.1 million to $17.1 Million still needed.

A little digging, and looks like the hub motors are Elaphe M700's at 23kg unsprung weight each.

Still definitely not sold on this design decision.
