airbag

I talked to some people on the EVDL, and they told me that the airbag is VERY difficult to get to work on an EV. It's not a matter of just running into some old lady and having it go off. The computer's decision to make the airbag go off also involves some complicated signals from the engine, which of course will no longer be there. It may not be true, but that's what the EVDL peeps said.

Hmmm I am NOT knowledgeable on this but I do know that there is a difference between the original airbags and "modern" airbags. For example I know Tesla got an exemption from the new requirements. This might be relevant to you. Maybe the older system is "simpler" and easier to convert ??

Unfortunately, there's only one way to know for sure whether the airbags will work...

Waxy: no power steering in the little beastie! (Probably no cruise either.)

Wow, I don't update this thread for a while and you guys are all over me.

Well, been busy. Had to replace the entire steering column in the S10 and have a trip to California. Busy with work all this week.

Looking forward to the holiday weekend to do SOMETHING on the car.

I think I should get a chance to carve the little hub out of the middle of the clutch plate. Then I can get that that measurement to MPaul.

I also need to tinker with the transmission a bit. Pull out/off the extra unneccessary bits and make an adapter plate template.

I also need to hunt down a coupler that fits my motor drive shaft.

Lots of things to do!

Gimmee Gimmee, I need, I need, Gimmee, Gimmee. hahaha!
(That's from "What About Bob?")

Thanks for measuring that for me! There have been some really good deals for Lovejoy couplers on Ebay. A wide range of diameters.

I have the hub!!!!!!

Here's your fix for the day:

Original Clutch Plate. (Can you tell what's wrong with it?)

Grind Off the Rivits. Don't grind and breath asbestos.

Pull out little center hub.

Nice Hub.

The smaller, machined edge measures just a tad under one inch. As best I can measure, it is 31/32. The back side is a little bigger and has lots of teeny-tiny spot welds.

Now, everyone else run out and do the same.

Ben,

Awesome project. I'm in the Milwaukee area too. I don't know a single thing about EV conversions, but if you ever need an extra set of hands, let me know.

Everyone enjoy the holiday weekend,
Jay
