Nothing like a little rear-wanting-to-be-front and snap oversteer.

Just like those Brazilian-made replicas of the MG TD built around VW Beetle frames for instance. Well, as the MX-5 is often pointed out as some sort of spiritual reinterpretation of the classic British featherweight roadster, that might be the most accurate comparison...

Bring a Ute, they said.

Averaged around 6.0L/100km, or 39mpg.

Beyond that, fuel economy averages have been improving. I haven't isolated variables, but the red line indicates where I installed the underbody paneling. The weather is also warming up, and there's less rain. My driving conditions may also not be 1:1.

Got some mild mud flaps installed which should have zero impact on aerodynamics. Also ordered some LEDs, a delete kit for the DVD player (enlarges the behind-seats glove box), as well as what's necessary to flash the infotainment system to install more apps (such as a better fuel economy tracker). I'm pricing out some wheels, but the prices are rather shocking.

Otherwise just enjoying December.

I don't daily the MX-5, but put a fair number of kilometers on it with road trips, weekend outings, and (more recently) towing.

Last Monday I took it on a 5 hour drive pulling a large cargo trailer, to pick up some furniture. It was extremely competent, and averaged ~7.1L/100km or 33mpg, traveling at speed of around 80-90kph with the trailer.

On a recent road trip, with a cargo carrier attached to the back of the car, and an average speed of 100kph, it averaged 5.3-6.0L/100km, or 39-44mpg.

I have a few very small mods planned for it in the immediate future: LED turn signals, DVD player delete, a partial grille block, and when I do eventually need tires, something a little less aggressive.

What do you mean by less aggressive? How would you expect it to affect towing capacity?

Although it's Middle Earth, it definitely feels more like Edge of Earth. The weather is virtually always pleasant, if a touch humid, and there are no dangerous animals or biting insects (except for sandflies on the south island's west coast). The cost of living is actually lower now than in much of the US, too.

Weta is a short walk from where I live.

Some pictures for your entertainment, taken over the last few weeks.
