People actually want money for a car with 500,000 kms? As in more than scrap money? I passed on a 2003 Silverado SLT crew cab Duramax diesel 4x4 with leather seats, running and driving with 512,000 KMs on it for $1200 - KMs that high just don't have a value anymore, regardless of the vehicle. That Civic is worth about $150, and that's before you take out the cat convertor and battery to turn in for scrap value, then crush the rest of the car.

I've seen cars advertised around here as "low mileage" with close to 400,000 KM or 250k miles, hate to see what they call high mileage. Prices here are higher since they don't rust away. Any Prius below $4500 is either salvage title or over 250k miles (400k KM).

I bought my insight with 482k kilometers for 2k. I have seen ones with more sell for around the same price.

With all the money the previous owner saved on fuel, they were able to trade it in on a new Lexus! That dealership is into that thing for nothing, plus I like the $480 "doc fee" they charge. You could probably score that car pretty cheap, a Lexus dealer only has so much space for cars, and they don't want a 20 year old Metro taking up the space that a new Lexus could be parked in.

Yes, I imagine they would resent a Metro occupying a Lexus spot, especially when it does not take up the entire spot!
Assuming the tax is taken after the $479 document fee, tax would be $349.13, so $4,825.13 for a Geo Metro rated 26/31.
I consider it amazing how little I could afford that car.

I was thinking back to almost 50 years ago when Pop sold his 1 year old 65 Chrysler Newport and bought an absolutely pristine 1950 Dodge Coronet with 30 kmiles. Never in rain, garage kept, perfect dealer installed seat covers, keys that had never been in the ignition and a mohair interior.
I told them yesterday the 2014 CTS coupe would be the last car I helped them buy. The old Dodge was the first. We bought the 99 Eldorado that she traded in 12 years ago on Long Island New York. It had 23k miles when we bought it.
They dream on that Metro.

Yeah, that price is shocking. Only slightly less shocking is how piss poor the mileage is with the antiquated 3-speed slushbox automatic!
I've considered 2 different slushbox Metroids in the last 12 months, but only worthwhile as an auto-to-manual conversion project.
Last summer I tried to get an automatic 1.0L '99 Metro hatch with only 27k miles on it near Montreal. The asking price was reasonable, but the seller was incomprehensibly uncommunicative and I gave up in frustration.
