It is difficult to believe how old this is, yet what resolution is there?

So, Volkswagen wanted to prove how clean their diesels were, so they had people suck fumes. On the one hand, Germans causing people to inhale toxic gases looks especially bad, but on the other hand, since the steering wheel was not moving, the exhaust was less toxic.

Volkswagen is trying to get their trial delayed by six months because a documentary suggested historical precedent.

The resolution was that I went out and got a pre-TDI diesel and put a KDF logo in the back window. No pretense at all.

Which is worst, [presumably unpaid] monkeys who are forced to watch cartoons, or testing presumably paid human subjects?

The science German scientists did in the 2nd WW was roundly denounced and then quietly studied.

"Sir, we found people who will inhale fumes for free as long as they can watch cartoons\hang out with monkeys\use our wifi\borrow fidget spinners\take selfies in a dirty and poorly-lit mirror."
"No, we need to pay them, or we will look evil."

People should quit trying to compare the Dieselgate and the recently-revealed exhaust inhale tests with the Badenstalten (gas chambers disguised as shower rooms) and other Nazi crimes.

People should stop saying the President of the United States is 'literally Hitler', too.

I was comparing to the science that was war crimes, not the war crimes that were war crimes. It was similar to people's response to Japanese nerve gas experiments.

When did people start saying the President was "literally Hitler?"
When did people started misusing literally?
When Hitler became a bad story and not a horrific, but real part of history?

CR makes a good point. If everyone is Hitler, then nobody is Hitler. I watched a Netflix series that started with the VW cheating, and I found it both informative and divisive. Why taint an otherwise good summary of how the scandal unfolded by throwing in an unrelated clip of Hitler speaking?

As I've said, VW is wrong to deceive people, but I find it hard to care much when there are tons of diesel trucks spewing orders of magnitude more pollutants. One of those trucks passed by the other day, and I grinned at the fond association I have with that smell.

The main problem I have is that the company didn't violate the public trust, individuals did. Companies make no decisions; humans do. Individuals need to be held accountable in addition to the punitive penalty paid by VW.

If it ain't tens of thousands of people dieing each year as a result of exhaust pollutants, think of cities like Beijing and Mumbai, it is many times more...

So a little research on that matter should hurt nobody, right?

It's just what people do. Jane Honda made the news recently for looking pretty good for 80, and they had to run the picture of her sitting on that anti-aircraft gun.

Weren't all the European manufacturers dragged into that? BMW? Renault?
