I agree that the Tesla Model 3 isn't vaporware. However...

The $35K Model 3 (before tax credits / $27,500 after) that hundreds of thousands of people put down deposits to get is vaporware. It will never be built. Time will tell how many people will ask for their deposit back and how many will just buy a more expensive Model 3.

I'd say a $~36,000 Model 3 is all but inevitable. Don't think it will boost sales all that much, because a person that can afford $36k can probably stretch to $40.

Tesla still has at least all of this year at full production capacity before they start to wear out US consumer demand.

I think people need to be very honest with themselves about EVs regardless. I.e., if the goal is to save money, a new one is NEVER going to be the best option. Depreciation blows that argument out of the water for at least the first 3 years if not longer - depending upon the age of the vehicles one already owns and would presumably sell.

I've decided that I will never buy another car new for that reason. And TBH about my own purchase, I didn't get the i3 because it was the 'best' deal, BUT, happiness of the driver counts. (Even if that is vicarious via the conduit of marriage. )

When do you think I can buy a new Model 3 for $27,500? That is what people signed up to get.

Buying a new car never makes sense due to depreciation. (EV or ICE) I also decided not to buy new cars because it just cost so much less to buy a low mileage vehicle coming off a 3 year lease.

I've started to think about what I will buy to replace the Spark and the Cadillac ATS / CTS have made the short list. I'm seeing cars with 20-30K miles selling for 50% of MSRP.

They need to complain to the federal government for being retarded then.

The tax credit is a poor use of money in the first place, but ignoring that, it was implemented in about the dumbest way you could.

The credit was definitely written to benefit higher wage earners who itemize.

Learned that the hard way with our Escape hybrid years ago.

I guess that is one way to look at it. Another way is the Musk knew that his ramp up plan would never involve a $35K Model 3 being sold when the tax credit was still available. He lied and promised this combination anyway to boost the number of reservations.
